12 Quick Breakfasts on a Budget

Quick, cheap and convenient breakfasts on a budget!

Breakfast can be such a hassle. During the work week it needs to be a grab-n-go situation for me. As much as I want to scramble an egg, toast some bread and fry some bacon, it doesn't compare to how much I'd rather sleep in those extra 5-10 (or 30) minutes.

I've made overnight oats and mini breakfast quiches and I've scarfed down a bowl of cereal or taken a GO-gurt for the car ride to work. I enjoy cooking and should probably plan my meals better but I will be honest here. I like convenience. I like quick and I like cheap. Plus, there's something about having a routine of stopping to get breakfast or coffee in the morning.

For those mornings when you didn't make breakfast quiches the night before and you need something savory to help get you through your two-hour meeting at 9am, I have some options for you to consider.

These are in no particular order but I'll start off with my personal favorite :-)

Bojangles' - Cajun Filet Biscuit Combo $6

Monday - Sunday 5am (or 5:30) to midnight | other locations vary
First and foremost we have Bojangles'. I don't need to do any explaining here but I will anyway for those newbies in Charlotte. Yes everything is fried or buttered beyond necessity, but you're going to the gym or for a run today so this breakfast choice is TOTALLY fine. Not every day of the week of course, but 1 deliciously greasy breakfast won't hurt you. Most people I know love the Bo rounds but I like to stick to the Cajun-seasoned fries.

Suarez Bakery - Glazed Donut(s) $1

Monday - Friday 8am to 6pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm, Sunday 8am to 1pm
Pastries, Cookies, Cupcakes, Donuts...plus Counter Culture Coffee! I absolutely love Suarez' glazed donuts. You can even go for the Texas Donut which is about the size of your face, then topped with what looks like a donut hole, but it's about the size of your palm. Whatever you decide, the friendly faces behind the counter are willing to help you make the right choice.

Amelie's - Pumpkin Danish $4

Monday - Sunday 7am to 8pm (or midnight) | other locations vary
Ok so you can't (shouldn't) have macaroons or salted caramel brownies for breakfast. But these pumpkin danishes are a perfect fit for your fall season crazy obsessions (I'm looking at you PSL lovers!). And yes, I definitely recommend getting a SCB To-Go for your 3pm sweetness fix.

Joe's Doughs - Chocolate Sprinkles $2

Tuesday - Friday 7am to 1pm
Who doesn't love a good specialty donut?! They've got a plethora of donuts to choose from like:  Maple Bacon, Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel, Cinnamon Sugar, Vanilla and more. They also feature seasonal flavors, this weekend will be Pumpkin Ginger Snap Cake Donut and Bourbon Praline.

Sunflour Baking Company - Muffin $3

Elizabeth & Dilworth Locations, Monday - Sunday 7am to 7pm (Sunday close is at 4pm)
Made fresh daily, Sunflour Baking Company has everything you need! Muffins, scones, homemade poptarts, cheddar biscuits, breakfast sandwiches, croissants, cupcakes, and loaves of bread and of course COFFEE!

Duck Donuts - Maple Bacon $2

Wednesday - Saturday 7am to 7pm, Sunday - Tuesday 7am to 3pm
Get there early so you don't have to wait too long in line AND have your ideas ready. You can choose whatever glaze and topping you wish! Hmmm, maple bacon :D

Coco and the Director - Breakfast Sammy $6

Monday - Sumday 6am to 10pm
House roasted meat and carved to order, these breakfast sammies aren't anything like your typical. Pair it with any one of their delicious coffees. If you're lucky, you can pick up a slice of their banana bread for $2!

Juice Bar - Blue Chocolatta $7

Monday - Friday 7am to 7pm, Saturday 8am to 5pm
I personally like the Blue Chocolatta, it has cocoa powder, blueberries, banana, almond butter, coconut milk. You don't have to get a smoothie, you can get juices as well.

Owen's Bagels - Mary's Grubby Bubby $5

Monday - Sunday 7am to 3pm (Monday close is at 2pm)
With a list of what seems like 100 different bagels to choose from, these steamy bagel sandwiches will make just about anyone happy. If you don't like steamed bagels you'll have to specify! Serving up Pure Intentions coffee, this pit stop is right on the way to uptown across from Atherton Mill.

Einstein Bros - Variety $6

South Blvd, Monday - Friday 5:30am to 5pm, Saturday - Sunday 6am to 5pm | College St, Monday - Friday 8am to 1:30pm
Bagels are great in just about any way, plain, toasted, sliced, not sliced, with or without cream cheese or as a savory sandwich. They are fast, friendly and conveniently located on South Blvd for your drive uptown. Be sure to get their freshly squeezed orange juice, yum!

Sugarrmann - Jalapeno Cheddar Bagel $4

Their locations have been uptown and at different offices & schools around the city. Options include Kronut Chicken Waffle, Jalapeno Cheddar Bagel, Cinnamon Bun, Coffee Cake, Croissant.

Waffles are premade early in the morning and are toasted to perfection to order and served with their homemade honey glaze. It's basically a create your own waffle joint but there are some standard menu items to make your life easier. Choices include Fresh Fruit Deluxe, Slowberry Cobbler, Cinnamon Roll, Peanut Butter Cup or you can simply get a Naked waffle.
