Everything Has a History...
Sparked by a binge of Flea Market Flip episodes, I decided to search for Charlotte flea markets, landing me on the website for Metrolina Antique & Vintage Market. There’s something to be said about spending a beautiful day perusing through aisles of second-hand and reclaimed items, all with a history and in need of a new home.
I was delightfully surprised to read that the next Metrolina event was happening this weekend March 3rd through 6th, and figured there’s no better way to spend a sunny Friday before the crowds flock there over the weekend. About a ten minute drive just northeast of Uptown gets you there quickly- this venue is HUGE and you will want plenty of time to poke through all the goods.
Once you get there…
There’s plenty of parking once you turn into the gravel lot. Head up to the ticket booth where a mere $5 gets you in. Your ticket is good all weekend, so hang onto it in case you need to come back with a moving truck to transport all your new treasures! This market is both indoor and outdoor, so dress for the weather.
What will you find?
As you browse the booths, you will find everything from vintage jewelry and clothes, to handmade furniture, home décor, collectors’ items and memorabilia. For those concerned that flea markets are full of junky old things, I can attest that this isn’t the case with this market. You will find a good mix of both vintage and modern items, and there are a lot of hidden gems, if you have the time and patience to search!
The vendors are also willing to answer any questions you may have on the items they have available. Vendors will also have different goods every day, so if you don’t find anything you love, strike up a conversation! They might have what you’re looking for next time around. We ended up finding a painting and a shadow box with starfish in shabby-chic painted frames.
It’s gone to the dogs!
If the friendliness of the vendors isn’t enough to convince you, then their furry companions will! Throughout the venue, there are vendors whose pooches are there to greet customers and provide tail wags and kisses. They’ll boost your spirits throughout your day of shopping. If you’re wondering if your pet is welcome too, the answer is yes! Metrolina welcomes dogs that are small enough to be carried (my guess being around a 20 pound maximum), and we saw many pups shopping alongside their owners.
Hungry for more?
To quench your thirst and keep your hunger at bay while you shop, there is a food stand selling burgers and the like inside Building A (I highly recommend the parmesan fries), food trucks parked outside, and a full bar featuring local craft brews.
Their next show is their Spring Extravaganza that runs March 30th through April 2nd from 9AM to 5PM and April 3rd from 10AM to 4PM, and they are open monthly until their last show in June 2016. Check their website for more details, as ticket prices vary.
