Let's go for a ride!!

It never fails. The words “let’s go for a ride!” always provoke that adorable little head tilt perfected by my sweet little four-legged sidekick, Andie. Her big brown eyes can’t hide her excitement when I mutter those five words.

One of the things I enjoy most about warmer weather is being able to take Andie with me to different places around the Queen City. And judging by her wagging tail, she seems to be pretty ok with it too.

Here at EatWorkPlay, we have several doggie lovers in our group. I collected some of our favorite dog-friendly spots in and around Charlotte that you should definitely check out with your pooch.

Lucky Dog Bark and Brew

2220 Thrift Rd, Charlotte, NC 28208

19607 Statesville Road, Cornelius, NC 28031 (I77 Exit 28)

The way to my heart is through good beer and my dog. Lucky Dog is the perfect mix of the two. The Charlotte location opened in April 2016 as a sister to another Lucky Dog Bark and Brew located in Cornelius. From daycare, boarding, and bath services, to plenty of indoor and outdoor space to play, you can sit back with your favorite local brew and watch your four-legged friend.

Pro tip: Each location offers specials like ½ price wine night, or pint night. Check their FB pages for details!

The Dog Bar

3307 N Davidson St., Charlotte, NC 28205

Ask any Queen City dog lover, and chances are, The Dog Bar in NODA is a favorite place to visit with pooch in tow. Established in 2005, The Dog Bar was a unique concept, and one of the first spots in the greater Charlotte area that intermingled dogs into drinking, watching sports, and live music.

In particular, we’re big fans of Thursty Thursday. Whether you’re a NODA local, or resident of another QC neighborhood, The Dog Bar is a convenient 2 minute drive from Uptown Charlotte

Charlotte Dog-Friendly Breweries!

Sycamore, Birdsong, Olde Mecklenburg, just to name a few. Most of the local breweries allow four-legged friends. (Call or check social media first if you’re not sure!) With patio season in full swing, it’s the perfect time to grab your leash and head on down to your neighborhood brewery with your furry sidekick.

And again, it’s hard to beat enjoying a cold beer with your dog by your side. Dogs and beer...I’m starting to see a trend here…

Local Parks and Greenways

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous and want to get some exercise alongside your doggie, you have to check out some of the awesome local parks and greenways. With many spots being within walking distance to uptown, it’s easy to get outdoors and give your dog a little green space to explore.

Little Sugar Creek Greenway offers plenty of walking trails as well as skyline views. Running from Cordelia Park, north of Uptown, through midtown and down to the South Carolina State Line, there’s plenty of room to roam and exercise whether you have two or four legs.

Freedom Park, located between the Dilworth and Myers Park neighborhoods offers 98 acres of land and a 7 acre lake to explore with your pooch. A quick 3 miles from uptown, it’s a nice jog, or if you prefer driving, your doggie will gladly take the wheel!

Marshall Park in Second Ward is another fav as it’s lake, fountain, open grassy areas, and picture-perfect skyline views provide an instagram-worthy setting for an afternoon outside.

And we can’t forget about Romare Bearden Park! One of center city’s newest hot-spots, and right across from the Knights home, BB&T Ballpark, you’ll find one of the most art-driven parks in town. With waterfalls, gardens, a field, and courtyard of tables and chairs, it’s easy to see why a celebratory roll in the grass is appropriate in such a beautiful place!

As you can see, there are plenty of great places for your four-legged friends to tag along in the Queen City.
