Exploring Charlotte's Ice Cream Scene in 30 Days! (Days 1-7) - #30daysoficecream

Day 1 – Tony’s Ice Cream

Location: E Franklin Blvd Gastonia

I always start with what I like best! Tony’s Ice Cream has been making their own since 1915 – they’ve got it down right delightful.

Good Old Fashion flavors like Rocky Road, Butter Pecan, and Black Cherry are complimented by the red vinyl booths. It’s very reminiscent of those childhood days, when it seemed like life was simpler. I imagine this was the local hang out for our grandparent’s date nights.

Tony’s Ice Cream is a family owned operation with a plant right next door that distributes their fresh ice cream to stores and restaurants around the state of North Carolina.

You’re in for a real treat when you drop in to the store. The oversized scoops are surprisingly underpriced.

My favorite –  A Banana Split of course! Tony’s is soooo worth the drive from Lake Norman to Gastonia.

Day 2 – Ben & Jerry’s

Location: Birkdale Village

Shenanigans and such…Mint Chocolate Chip will do that to ya.

Day 3 – Ninety’s Sandwiches and Ice Ceam

Location: Shoppes at University Place

Strolled over from the homemade ice cream parlor and about to jump in the paddle boats!

Day 4 – Baskin Robbins

Location – South Blvd.

It's a Pistachio kinda day. We're solving the world's problems at Baskin Robbins on South Blvd

Day 5 – Bruster’s Real Ice Cream

Location - Birkdale

Black Raspberry isn't easy to find!

Only place to get it - Bruster’s Real Ice Cream in Birkdale

Day 6 - Spanky’s Ice Cream & Deli

Location: Salisbury

The adventure continues with a road trip to Spanky’s, so grab a friend, your sister or even your neighbor!

Secrets of an Ice Cream Artisan were revealed on this journey.

Welcome to Spanky’s! Opened in 1987 by the Orlando Family (They went to Penn State Ice Cream College, ha! who knew there was one.) Monica Lefler became the new owner in 2014 and her son Dan makes the ice cream on the premises.

The secret is in the air churned into the ice cream, while adding fresh ingredients (not flavorings).

Currently in rotation: Cheerwine, Maple Bacon, and you've got to try the Rosemary Lemonade!!

It'll change your life!

Day 7 – Mr. K’s

Location – South End

Snowball vs. The Dip!

They're both winning ways to beat this heat. Come place your bets!

Stay tuned throughout the month of August while we explore Charlotte's ice cream scene! #30daysoficecream
