Rather than using a traditional speaker system, live music is broadcast and picked up by specially designed wireless headphones worn by the audience. The festival will expose people to a rich mosaic of diverse art, crafts, languages, fashions and cuisine from the various regions of India to bring diverse communities together.
Festival highlights include:
Dance performances at Belk Theater: a medley of classical and modern fusion and Bollywood beats performed by top choreographers and the best local talent clothed in in costumes of diverse styles and colors. There will be three 90-minute segments each day. • Indian Art Gallery: a display of paintings, pottery and handicrafts by local Indian American artists.
Exhibits on the cultural highlights that distinguish and define the rich diversity of various regions of India.
A new exhibit this year will focus on the religious diversity of India, which has the third largest Muslim population in the world. The exhibit will present social, historical, philosophical and political aspects of the numerous religions practiced in India. It will also shed light on ways in which diverse religious communities come together and also ways in which these communities are torn apart due to social and political fractures.
Food vendors and outdoor dances with live pulsating music on Tryon Street: Food vendors will offer savory samosa chaat, delicious chicken biryani, refreshing mango lassi, rice crispy (dosa), and many other Indian delicacies from across the regions for every taste-buds.
Indian Bazaar on Tryon Street and vendors inside Belk Theater selling colorful Indian traditional dresses, saris, real gold and fashion jewelry, and handicrafts.
Exhibits on Indian American themes developed by Charlotte-area middle schools students.
A documentary, short films and full length dramas and singing competition.
Opportunity to learn how to put on a popular native attire called Saree, and also get a Henna tattoo in typical Indian designs.
