Located in the heart of NoDa lies award-winning restaurant, Haberdish. They teamed with local fine art photographer, Megan Dunbar, to launch a cocktail promotion throughout the month of April in support of this artist to pursue her latest photographic venture.
With spring around the corner, Charlotte is blooming with fresh new foliage as well as fresh spring menu items. As we sit on restaurant porches and enjoy new cocktails, food, and most importantly, the weather, we would like to highlight a locally owned restaurant that is doing something great for a local artist.
Megan Dunbar is a fine art photographer residing in Charlotte. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2015, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree in Studio Art Photography with Magna Cum Laude Honors. Upon receiving her degree, she moved to Charlotte to further pursue a fine art career focusing on the use of medium format film photography in a double and single exposure style.
Megan undertook her first major fine art project titled Nomad, while in college, with the main concept of the series being exploration of the rural south. She compiled single and double medium format film exposures of objects, foliage, landscapes, and animals in an artistic expression to bring about the notion of wanderlust for nostalgic purposes. In her latest spin-off series, “Nomad: On The Road”, she hopes to further extend the concept of wanderlust to different National Parks and Monuments throughout the United States to photographically preserve the multi-faceted ecosystems within this great land.
Megan also runs her own travel photography blog under the alias of CLT Nomad, sharing the thrill of wayfaring and adventure with all whom follow her on photographic excursions. Thus, leading to the creation of Haberdish’s very own “CLT Nomad” cocktail. One dollar of each cocktail sold will go toward funding Dunbar’s career-breaking trip across the country. The cocktail was a collaboration effort between the artist as well as one of Haberdish’s mixologists, Kelli Brennan, who will be traveling on the first leg of the artist’s trip through the backwoods of Kentucky on the bourbon trail. The cocktail is a breezy yet boozy rendition of a whiskey smash consisting of Makers 46 bourbon, muddled raspberries, lemons and lime, with a splash of ginger beer on top. It is sure to make your porch hangs just as exciting as the cocktail itself and is perfect for anyone who is or isn’t a bourbon enthusiast.
Crêpe Cellar, a sister restaurant under the same ownership of Haberdish, will also have a funding cocktail called “Peony For Your Thoughts” where $1 of each cocktail sold will be going towards this Charlotte artist’s trip as well. This draft cocktail consisting of Vodka, Cointreau, Aperol and lemon was concocted by Crêpe Cellar’s bartender, Dustin Lail, and is sure to be enjoyed during this spring season as well.
As noted above, you can come through these restaurants throughout the month of April to support this artist and her travels this coming summer. To read more about the artist and view her work you can go to her portfolio website www.meganelizabethdunbar.com or read her blog at www.cltnomad.com .
