Kid Cashew: Sharing Plates and Memories
Since its opening in early 2016, Kid Cashew has been welcoming guests into its humble, trendy space on East Boulevard. Their American Mediterranean food is designed for sharing at an affordable price point. The restaurant boasts a large porch, perfect for Charlotte’s warm spring months, while the inside is complete with rustic, dark wood and quirky lighting which creates an inviting space for all.
Kid Cashew is truly a family style restaurant with its personable servers, communal tables, and small plates. The open kitchen provides a cozy, warm environment and the small bar serves up herb-infused cocktails and international wines.
The menu allows for effortless sharing with an extensive selection of small plates and sides. Mediterranean starters range from house-made hummus, tzatziki, and spicy feta dips to chargrilled Spanish octopus. The tzatziki dip is thick and creamy with hints of lemon and fresh dill served with warm, grilled pita bread.
The macaroni and five cheese gratin and the Brussels sprouts came highly recommended as two of the most popular shareable plates on the menu. The macaroni and cheese were baked to perfection with a cheesy crust and a blend of kasseri, gruyere, Gouda, white cheddar, parmesan, and feta cheeses. Then, it’s mixed with a leek and shallot fondue. The Brussels sprouts are tossed with lemon and toasted almonds for a simple yet flavorful side dish. Choose 3-4 plates or sides for your group to share a unique dining experience.
If you would like to stick to a traditional meal and prefer an entrée, Kid Cashew has sandwiches, salads, and a “from the butcher” section of meat and seafood. The all natural, local chicken, leg of lamb, and pork shoulder are slow cooked in the wood-fired oven for a smoky and satisfying flavor. North Carolina mountain trout and Scottish salmon are paired with quinoa and tomato salsa for a fresh, light option.
I personally enjoyed the pulled chicken avocado sandwich, our server’s favorite menu item. The wood-fired chicken was paired with cilantro yogurt and Gouda for a medley of smooth and savory flavors.
Kid Cashew is the perfect homey spot if you are looking for a distinctive, Mediterranean menu that was made for creating memories with friends and family. They offer weekly drink specials such as half-off wine bottles on Tuesdays and $5 craft cocktails on Thursdays.
