The sun is out, the flowers are blooming in the Queen City, and it is finally patio weather. Doesn’t it just make you wanna go sip on an ice cold beer?
True to form, I did just that when I checked out SouthPark’s Legion Brewing new Spring Menu items. While Legion’s Plaza Midwood location is an established neighborhood haunt at this point, the much newer SouthPark location is still growing its following just opening in Fall of 2018.
The multi-level interior is comparatively spacious with long picnic table-style seating that buttresses floor length windows. The high ceilings are clad in wood panels from Carolina Urban lumber, giving a rustic lived-in feel to the newly constructed space.
I sipped on a vibrant pink Beauty and the Beets saison, a favorite created especially for Women’s History month. I practically drooled over pending release of the Blood Orange Juicy Jay. Chef Briggs dished out some incredible meals. He emphasized the kitchen’s ability to accommodate customers with food allergies by creating gluten-free and vegetarian options, available upon request.
The shining star of the Spring Menu was this spicy local honey found drizzled on multiple menu items including the:
It’s served with a dollop of fresh butter. Just like your favorite southern grandma used to make, cast iron skillet and all.
Juicy Jay Chicken Sandwich
This mouthwatering sammy included a chicken breast dusted with a spicy wing rub, topped with the Juicy Jay beer-infused slaw, more of that fabulous spicy local honey, house-made bread and butter pickles and tomato, all served up on a toasted brioche roll.
Spicy Grilled Shrimp Cobb Salad
The salad with eggs, avocado, corn, tomato, bacon, and herbed-goat cheese, over a bed of mixed romaine and local greens is a lighter fare that didn’t disappoint. You could really taste the smokiness in the shrimp that was complimented and cooled down with light cilantro-lime vinaigrette.
Roasted Chicken Pizza
This isn’t just any pizza. It’s made with herby pistachio pesto spread and topped with chopped roasted chicken and chunks of creamy house made mozzarella.
Pork Belly Gyro
The gyro gives a crispy melt in your mouth with its Cheshire Farms pork belly, rolled up in a warm flat bread with diced Campari tomatoes, red onion, lettuce, and tzatziki sauce.
The show-stopping sandwich included your breakfast and lunch all together between two crispy buns. A grilled steak stacked with ham, applewood bacon, jack cheese, and roasted red pepper is truly a sandwich fit for kings.
All of these dishes were plated alongside a pair of precious sunnies, perfect to kick off the season, neatly tucked into a complimentary Legion pint glass to enjoy the brews back at home— crowlers are available for purchase.
Go check these new plates and try the Blood Orange Juicy Jay, to let us know how it is!
