Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen

Simplicity That Doesn’t Sacrifice Flavor

‘The Finest things are simplest”

In one word, Rooster’s philosophy is simple. “Simple food is harder to execute; there’s nowhere to hide the flaws,” Rooster’s explains. The restaurant prides itself on serving dishes packed with flavor using quality, locally sourced ingredients. Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen is dedicated to providing excellent service in addition to savory dishes and handcrafted cocktails. They’re driven not only by the food, but by the diners who enjoy their creations, intertwining simplicity and sincere hospitality throughout their menu, decor, and atmosphere.

When you walk into Rooster’s, you’ll be greeted by a full bar, a cozy fireplace, and warm, natural light flooding in from the floor to ceiling windows. The decor is mostly made of wood; the communal tables, robust bar stools, and paneled doors give the illusion of eating inside an upscale barn. Upstairs, there are wooden booths with leather seats and an open kitchen with wood-fired ovens. The open kitchen allows patrons to watch the chefs creating their delicious meals while preserving the intimate and relaxing environment. With these two different seating options, Rooster’s Wood Fired Kitchen is the perfect spot for businessmen and women looking to impress clients as well as a couple looking for a night on the town.

Do you enjoy Southern staples like shrimp and grits? Roosters is the place for you. First, house-made chorizo and sweet tomatoes are seared with garlic and shallot confit (a jam-like preserve). Four large, local shrimp are added to the pan with blackening seasoning to turn up the heat. Then, the whole dish simmers in tomato sauce and chicken stock until the flavors meld together. This decadent mixture cascades over grits from Anson Mills in Columbia, South Carolina and its all topped with butter. The dish is the perfect contrast of creamy and crisp with trimmings such as savory house-made chorizo, bacon crumbles, and sweet corn kernels.

One of my favorite foods is macaroni and cheese and Rooster’s is something to write home about! A homemade Parmesan cream sauce is mixed with macaroni noodles, topped with grated chèvre (French goat cheese) and more Parmesan, providing a sharp, unique flavor. It forms into the perfect crust when baked in the iron skillet.

If you’d like to taste something different, try the roasted beets with herbs and rotisserie chicken breast. The chicken’s been brined for 24 hours and cooked in a wood-fired oven for 3 hours, leaving the meat tender and moist. It’s then topped with Rooster Q sauce, made in-house, providing the perfect tangy flavor and complexity. For those with a sweet tooth, order the bread budding where baguettes from King’s Bakery are soaked in a bourbon butter cream sauce and topped with homemade chocolate gelato.

These are just a few samples of the exquisite menu at Rooster’s Wood-Fired Kitchen. Give them a try next time you’re looking for the perfect Uptown eatery.
